New Dubai laws supporting alternative dispute resolution

/
Content updates

Over the past quarter there have been two new laws in Dubai to encourage alternative dispute results.

The first new Decree, which came into force on 20 September 2021, aims to enhance and testify to the Emirate’s efficiency of alternative dispute resolution methods (arbitration and mediation). It comprises another step towards streamlining the local and international commercial arbitration landscape in Dubai. The English and original Arabic versions are available on Westlaw Middle East: Decree No. (34) of 2021, Concerning the Dubai International Arbitration Center.

The second development is a new Conciliation Law, which aims to promote and encourage the culture of amicable settlement of disputes. The Law provides an alternative dispute resolution method (aside from local courts or arbitration centers) for contracting individuals to resolve their disputes amicably faster. See Westlaw Middle East for the Arabic and English text: Dubai Law No. (18) of 2021, Regulating Conciliation Activities in the Emirate of Dubai.
